Feeding and Swallowing Disorders

• Feeding disorders  occur when there are difficulties with the skills needed for eating such as with sucking, eating from a spoon, chewing, or drinking from a cup. This can also include being a picky eater.

• Swallowing Disorders* (Dysphagia) occur when there is difficulties with moving actual food or liquid from the patients mouth, to their throat, to their stomach.

*NOTE: To fully assess the type of Dysphagia a patient is presenting with, a speech therapist may need an "x-ray" of the mouth, throat, esophagus, and stomach. This "x-ray" of swallowing is called a Modified Barium Swallow Study (MBSS). We do not offer this test but may request it as needed.
